Brother Fade is a disciple of The Trawler-man faith from Paraclete's Gulch.

Personality[]
Fade seems to be the more assertive of the two brothers. When we first meet him, he orders Flicker to be "ready with the gun", and later when Carpenter instructs him to load up the jeeps with supplies and evacuate the Gulch, he refuses.[2]
He does, however, follow orders.[2] He does so regardless of if he agrees with them or not.[3]
Background[]
Brother Fade is on watch with with twin, Brother Flicker when Carpenter and Faulkner return to the Gulch after escaping their ordeal with The Carving Chapter.[2]

| Chapter 28: To Drift On, To Dream, To Die | During Mercer and Gage's attack on the Gulch, Fade is in the tunnels and is unaware that his twin did not make it to cover and has died outside. He attempts to contact others, including his brother, via walkie-talkie, with no success. |
| Chapter 29: And Where My Final Footsteps Fall | During the evacuation of the Gulch, Brother Fade offers to hang behind for stragglers, but Carpenter tells him to go on, and stays behind herself. Ultimately, Brother Fade survives the raid, but expresses concern afterwards about why the attackers fell back, and what it means for the future of the disciples. |
| Chapter 30: Something Dreadful Shall Arise | Brother Fade is one of the disciples who scour the countryside attempting to apprehend and/or kill Carpenter, believing that she is a murderer. He goes door-to-door with her picture, asking if others have seen her. When he finds Carpenter he chases her, first on foot and then by car. Once he has her cornered and at gunpoint, they have a dramatic confrontation where Carpenter first taunts him, then reveals the truth about Faulkner's false claims. Fade is convinced, but decides to shoot her to stay in the good graces of the church, as "Faulkner has already won". The river rises from the back of the cave, saving Carpenter by sweeping away and drowning Brother Fade. Carpenter attempts to save him but fails to. |
